Dr. Sung-Jin Park - EPI Co-Founder and VP of Science

Dr. Sung-Jin Park leads research for technical innovation and manages the Company’s government programs participation as well as the intellectual property portfolio. Dr. Park is also an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Illinois.

Prior to co-founding Eden Park Illumination, Dr. Park devoted nine years to research on the microplasma phenomenon and device materials. He has been involved in a number of collaborations with international research institutions and companies on microplasma applications for the next generation. Between 2001 and 2003, he worked at Ajou University, Korea, as a Professor Researcher. During that period, he studied nanostructured materials for flat lighting sources and, simultaneously, participated as a senior researcher in a Korean government project pursuing plasma flat lamp development for LCD backlight.

He has over 70 journal publications and holds 30 patents and patent applications. Dr. Park obtained a Ph.D. degree in Chemistry from Myongji University in 1999 and did his postdoctoral work at the University of Illinois between 1999 and 2001.
